By submitting your UA Undergraduate App for admission, you will be automatically considered for many scholarship opportunities without submitting a separate scholarship application. If you are admitted, you may have additional competitive scholarship opportunities available in the Alabama Scholarship Award Manager (ASAM). To fully maximize your scholarship opportunities at UA, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Apply for Admission and Scholarships

Scholarships Included in Your UA Undergraduate App

Your admission application includes your scholarship application for many scholarship opportunities.

First-Time Freshmen (Domestic)

• All automatic merit scholarships
• Most competitive scholarships awarded by Student Financial Aid and Scholarships

First-Time Freshmen (International)

• All automatic merit scholarships
• Most competitive scholarships awarded by Student Financial Aid and Scholarships

In-State Transfer

• All automatic merit scholarships
• Most competitive scholarships awarded by Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (includes Roll Tide Transfer Scholarship and Community College Presidential Scholarship)

Out-of-State and International Transfer

Most competitive scholarships awarded by Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (includes Roll Tide Transfer Scholarship and Capstone Transfer Scholarship)

Reminders

• Awards and Experience Section: Once your admission application has been submitted, changes cannot be made to the Awards and Experience section.
• College Selection: The major you list on your application determines which college reviews you for scholarships — you can only list one.

Step 2: Complete Scholarships in the Alabama Scholarship Award Manager (ASAM)

Alabama Scholarship Award Manager (ASAM)

Students may apply for additional competitive scholarships not included in the admission application through ASAM. These scholarships involve a separate application or require additional information.

ASAM Timeline

• Students gain access to ASAM via myBama once they are admitted.
• Students should complete their scholarship application in ASAM before the competitive scholarship priority deadline.
• Competitive scholarship priority deadlines for the 2027 cycle for reference:
  • Incoming freshmen (Summer/Fall): December 4
  • Incoming freshmen (Spring): November 2
  • Incoming transfer students (Summer/Fall): March 1
  • Incoming transfer students (Spring): October 1
  • Current students: March 1

Scholarships in ASAM

• Only scholarships for which a student may be eligible will appear in ASAM.
• Scholarships in ASAM are awarded by the National Alumni Association, the academic colleges and departments across campus.

Changes in ASAM

Students can make changes to all applications in ASAM except their general scholarship application until the priority deadline for their intended entry term.

Members of Phi Theta Kappa

Members of Phi Theta Kappa should submit their PTK certificate through ASAM by the priority deadline for their intended entry term.

• Incoming transfer students (Summer/Fall): May 1 (in-state) / March 1 (out-of-state)
• Incoming transfer students (Spring): October 1

Step 3: Complete Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The Student Financial Aid staff is dedicated to making the federal aid process as straightforward as possible. Financial assistance available through this office includes federal aid — grants, loans, work study and information about student employment. Please visit The University of Alabama Student Financial Aid website for more information.

International students: Federal student aid through FAFSA is not available to international students. International students should proceed to Step 4 to explore additional scholarship opportunities.

Step 4: Explore Additional Scholarship Opportunities

There are billions of dollars in external scholarships available to students with different qualifications, abilities and interests. External scholarships may be provided by private donors, foundations, businesses and other sources outside of The University of Alabama. Visit the External Scholarships Page to help find additional scholarships you may be eligible for.

Re-Awards

A re-award period typically occurs in late August, following the registration deadline. Additional scholarships are limited during this period and will not include automatic merit scholarships or the three competitive scholarships awarded by Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Students are encouraged to plan for enrollment based on their current financial aid award and scholarship offer.
