The University of Alabama offers generous scholarship opportunities for in-state transfer students. Scholarships are awarded based on a range of factors, which may include academic achievement, leadership, service, work experience and other accomplishments.

Automatic Merit Scholarships
Automatic merit scholarships are awarded based on cumulative GPA. Students do not need to submit a separate application and will be considered as long as they have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, 45 hours of transferable coursework completed and meet any additional eligibility requirements.
Only students who have attended two-year institutions and submitted their application and all supporting documents by the priority deadline are eligible for automatic merit scholarships.

Competitive Scholarships
Competitive scholarships are awarded based on a holistic review of academic and non-academic information provided on a student’s admission application. Valued $3,000 up to tuition.

Student Financial Aid and Scholarships awards the following Premier Competitive Scholarships to in-state transfers.

These scholarships may not be combined with automatic merit scholarships — students are awarded the highest scholarship for which they qualify.
- Roll Tide Transfer Scholarship — Competitive scholarship awarded through the admission application; valued at $3,000 per year.
- Community College Presidential Scholarship — Competitive scholarship worth tuition for two years (four semesters); community colleges within the state of Alabama are eligible to nominate students. Nomination process goes through the community college president’s office.
Additional Competitive Scholarships
- Alabama Advantage Scholarship — A need-based scholarship for Alabama residents; funds up to $5,000 of remaining in-state tuition after other scholarships and grants are applied.
- UA Sworn Officer Scholarship Program — For eligible sworn officers and/or children of sworn officers who provide services to the UA community; valued at up to $2,500 per academic year.
- National Alumni Association Scholarships — Scholarships awarded by the UA National Alumni Association.
- External Scholarships — Scholarship opportunities available from outside organizations.
- Community College Presidential Scholarship — Competitive scholarship worth tuition for two years (four semesters); community colleges within the state of Alabama are eligible to nominate students. Nomination process goes through the community college president’s office.
